Bonus Features Deconstructed

Wild symbol depicted as Thor’s hammer appears on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 and substitutes for all other icons. Every time it lands in view, it will trigger the Lightning Strike Respin and expand to cover the entire reel before all other positions spin once again.

If a new Wild shows up during the re-spin, it will also stretch and remain in place together with the previously expanded twin. Up to 3 additional Wilds can appear after the initial trigger and players can consequently benefit from a maximum of 4 re-spins. All Wild reels feature a multiplier and multiply each other so that, for example, 2 reels with a multiplier of x5 would boost the payout x25.

Having won 5x your bet or more, you’ll be offered to enter the Mega Spins Ladder and attempt to increase the win or exchange it for Mega Spins. It’s done using a wheel with green and red segments the size of which reflects winning/losing odds.

Choosing to play for a higher value prize than proposed decreases the size of the green segment and expands the red one. If the pointer ends up on green, you’ll win the selected reward and can either collect it, trade it for a number of Mega Spins, or spin the wheel again for a better catch.

The most one can collect is 25x the amount initially won or 25 Mega Spins which play with extra Wilds and Mystery Symbols. The latter perform the familiar trick of transforming into the same, randomly chosen game icon. If the wheel pointer lands in a red rather than green segment, the amount won is lost and feature ends.

Lightning Strike vs Other Megaways Slots

Rather than use features typically associated with Megaways slots, such as cascading reels and Free Spins with multipliers, Blueprint Gaming decided to treat players to a very different set of extras as well as award wins both ways instead of paying only left to right. Multipliers attached to expanding Wilds can significantly boost base game payouts and increase the odds of getting to spin the wheel for win boosters and Mega Spins.

Accessing the Mega Spins Ladder appears to be much easier than triggering the Free Spins bonus round in other titles that use BTG’s Megaways. What’s more, Lightning Strike is willing to pay up to 50,000x the bet which is 5 times more than one can win while playing similar titles.
