Unlike the old days when people worked till they dropped down in the mines, now you can enjoy the comfort of your home, keep your fingers busy for a few spinning sessions and mine some treasures of your own.

Bonanza, an innovative slot from Big Time Gaming is here to show you that a hard day’s work can be very rewarding, as long as you imagine to be sporting a pickaxe and a helmet and keep on striking.

Launched in December 2016, Bonanza is a high volatility joy-ride with more ways to win than you can count. Once it came out, it was the game that propelled the Australian software developing studio among the stars of the industry and soon it paved way for other kindred video slots that continued with the award-winning tradition thanks to creative gameplay and excellent graphics.

Theme and Symbols

Big Time Gaming ‘s Bonanza introduces a theme that has been rarely explored in the past. Sure, there have been some attempts over the years, but rare ones were as successful as Bonanza. At first glance, one might think that Bonanza is about nature and pixies or something of a sort, but soon it becomes clear that the main theme is mining. You will be sent to the bedrock of the mines, somewhere remote, where the grass is green and the rocks are plentiful.

The deal with these rocks in particular is that they are rich in precious gems, and that’s what you’ll be after. On one side of the reels you’ll see a wooden cabin, a retreat for the miners, and on the other side an animated water wheel running non-stop. It’s a lively ambience, for a scene full of rocks.

Graphics are exquisite, quite top-notch. It’s hard to keep your eyes off the screen when you see glistening 3D gems on the reels. There’s a diamond, followed by a ruby, a sapphire and an emerald, whereas the lower paying icons are letters A, K, Q and J, and numbers 9 and 10. The developers’ imagination seems to have run out after creating such impressive scenery, that they’ve stuck to the generic card symbols after all.

The Wild is depicted as a stack of lit dynamite, whereas the Scatter is divided into four individual symbols bearing the letters G, O, L, D.

Special Features

The carts and extra symbols can also be considered a special feature, but, in a more conventional sense, you will find that Bonanza benefits from two major additional features. The first one is the Free Spins round, which gets triggered each time 4 of the Scatter symbols land on the reels and spell the word GOLD. The player is awarded 12 freebies with a win multiplier which starts at 1x and increases with every winning combo. Should the Scatters appear in the carts during the feature extra spins can be won.

You can get 5 spins for 3 Scatters or 10 spins for 4 Scatters. Back to the win multipliers – they are unlimited! As long as you stack winnings, your win total will grow exponentially without any limits.

The other notable feature is the Reactions feature. When the wins occur, the symbols explode and disappear. That leaves room for new icons to drop down and fill their positions, which opens up a possibility for a new winning combo, and so on and so forth.

You may recognise the concept of this feature, as it is present in a fair number of slots from other providers, but it usually has a different name, like Avalanche, Rolling Reels, Dropping Symbols or Cascading Reels. The Reactions continue until no winning formations are visible.

More about Bonanza

Apparently, the big wins are reserved for the bonus round, but thanks to the Reactions, the base game is just as thrilling. Players are advised not to get carried away as they might blow up their balance into smithereens playing a highly volatile online slot like this.

Proceed with caution, as anyone would while entering a mine, and try to make the best of the theoretical return of 96%. Bonanza slot is available across all devices, but for a more immersive experience, it is best to play it on a bigger screen whenever possible.

Final Verdict

Bonanza is an eye-catching slot with a prospecting theme and some larger-than-life features that can pay out big money. It was the first to showcase the MegaWays™ system which became one of the hallmarks of Big Time Gaming’s production.

Chances are Bonanza will surpass your expectations and you’ll want to try more games similar to it, like Danger High Voltage, Queen of Riches or Extra Chilli. You will find them in the same Canadian online casinos as Bonanza. No game does cascading reels better than NetEnt’s Gonzo’s Quest, though.
